On the heels of a successful Mardi Gras 2020 celebration, the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club – a benevolent association established in 1906, comprised of over 800 men almost all African American, lost a significant number of members to the Novel Coronavirus. Diving into the origin story of The Zulu Club, we seek to further understand the way black people, and black culture has shaped the city of New Orleans, and our nation.
